The Baby Shower Of The Century

My Baby Shower was on Saturday and it was such an amazing event—I have to thank my sister, Aimee, who flew in from Houston to host the shower at my house. Needless to say she was amazing and we had a great time together getting things ready. There were so many people there and I felt so much love. I feel so blessed to be surround by such amazing people in my life. I know there are many of you who couldn’t come and I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND—so for you, I will chronicle the events and give you all the details…really, it was amazing.

Pre-Shower Photo Shoot!

The “Hostess with the Mostess”: I know I’ve said it 100 times, but thank you again, Aimee!

Food: We served brunch, so there were Croissant sandwiches, Turkey and Swiss Rollers, pasta salad, fresh fruit and veggies, assorted mini muffins and fresh pumpkin bread—delicious. For dessert, we found this adorable bakery in Albuquerque called “Just-A-Bite” and we bought mini cupcakes and served them with chocolate covered strawberries and mints—adorable. I’m still not eating sweets, but they looked mighty tempting. And of course the water bottles had new “Amanda’s Baby Shower” labels.

Decorations: David and I had taken all these plain white onesies and we ironed-on funny sayings on them. Most will just go under other outfits, but we thought we were so funny, so anyway, Aimee had the great idea to string them up like a clothesline at the shower and they were adorable. Some of the girlie onesies say “Juicy” on the bum and that was for my sister Jenn who is a “Juicy Couture snob” and has many a “Juicy” splashed across her bum!

Games: We played just a few simple games, two were guessing how many candies were in the baby bottles and the other game was: Which baby, Amanda or David, did what? Simple and fun—great ideas Aimee!

Gifts: We were spoiled; the babies got so many wonderful things.

Diaper Raffle: In the invitations Aimee mentioned that there would be a “diaper raffle” and if you would like to participate you could bring diapers and get a chance to win a gift that I chose. Well, the response was amazing—as you can see. And one lucky diaper-giver went home with a $25 Target gift card.

The Babies’ Room: Throughout the shower Aimee and I took “tours” through the babies’ room. David and I worked really hard on it, so I think I can say---it’s the most amazing nursery I’ve ever seen—but I am not biased at all!

(Check back later for pictures of the Babies' Room.)

Letter From David: Aimee asked David to write me a letter and I’m so glad he did. It was adorable and needless to say I cried like a baby, very tender. He saved it on the computer and I found it, so here it is:

Dear Amanda,

Or should I say “Hunket”, or my “Boo,” or “Pretty Princess,” or “Love of my Life?” Let’s just say Amanda, the nine months we were apart while I was trying to get our condo sold or rented in Las Vegas, made me realize how much I really need you. You make life so much easier, more interesting and more fulfilling. It has been a struggle getting where we are now but I am so thankful that I have you to help me through it. I think there for a bit we were both thinking maybe we are just not supposed to have kids. I remember how devastating it was to get negative results, pregnancy test after pregnancy test. Then finally we got a positive result, I will never forget last Father’s Day when you gave me that little present to unwrap. I was so happy and relived to see a pregnancy test with a positive result. I am so impressed with how well you take care of your body and in turn the two babies we have been blessed with. Braxton and Brinkley may not know it now, but I will let them know that their mommy took such great care of them from day one and how lucky they are to have such a loving mother. Like the song says, “These are the days to hold on to.” I look forward to each day with you and our babies. I truly love you. David

Favor: I did the favors; because I really wanted something meaningful that expressed my gratitude for all the amazing people in my life. So I got individual bags of gourmet Jelly Bellies and put them in sacks with the following message about my belly (Get it? Belly-Jelly Bellies?):

When I was 13 weeks pregnant, I walked into my Perinatologist’s office for the first time. You couldn’t tell I was pregnant, but there I sat in the waiting room surrounded by woman with big, round, protruding bellies and wished that I too would someday have that belly. It wasn’t the belly itself that I desired, it was what the belly meant: growing, healthy babies nearly ready to enter this world. Now when I sit in that same waiting room, I am the one with the biggest, roundest, most protruding belly. I feel blessed beyond what my words can describe to have made it this far and I thank each of you for your love, reassurance and support. This journey has been a difficult one, but truly the most amazing experience of my life...thank you for traveling a portion of this road with me.
All My Love,
Amanda

Wow, you girls know how to throw a party! It looks like you had such a wonderful shower. I'm sad I missed it. By the way, how do you guys make the new water-bottle labels?

I love your onesies, by the way. There's one more you need to add (if you don't already have it): "Stop copying me!" I saw some in a catalog and they were so cute.

Good luck with the next few weeks! Can't wait to hear about Brandon & Brenda's arrival. (Yeah, I know you revealed their names already, but they'll forever be Brandon & Brenda to me.)

I am so glad you posted pictures and details. We all wish we could have been there. The only one who can compete with Aimee is Amanda- you two are the BEST party throwers ever. BTW I think my shower was pretty darn cute myself thanks to you miss Amanda Renee. We love you and can't wait for good news to come.
