Notes From My Underbelly

We got to see the babies again yesterday. The appointment wasn’t supposed to be until today, but the Perinatologist’s office called and had to move it up and I jumped at the chance to see them a day early—I’ve said it before, but seriously, seeing them is the highlight of my existence! David was such a trooper and came straight from a 13-hour day at work; he’d been up since 2 that morning!

Here’s the scoop:

Brinkley (Baby A):

Measuring 36 weeks and 4 days, heartbeat of 127 beats per minute, weighing in at 6 pounds and 10 ounces and in the 65th percentile for a single baby.

Braxton (Baby B):

Measuring 37 weeks and 2 days, heartbeat of 131 beats per minute, weighing in at 7 pounds and 3 ounces and in the 79th percentile for a single baby.

I can’t even tell you how excited I was when she announced their weights. I said early on that I wanted 6 or 7 pounders--I just didn’t want sickly babies in the hospital for months. This news is such a welcome blessing and as each day inches closer I am grateful for any sacrifice I had to make, every prayer that has been said on our behalf and all the continued love and support by those around us. We are so blessed!

Braxton even cooperated and wasn’t looking at my spine; this is the first time in nearly two months that we’ve seen his cute little face. They look so different already; I think it’s adorable! Definitely different noses and faces shapes!

More Random Notes From My Underbelly

■ So last week my belly measured that I was 47 weeks pregnant. I asked my doctor if I was the biggest belly she had seen that day and she made it very clear that I am the biggest belly that she sees in general.

■ I asked a girl I hadn’t seen in a while how she was doing and her reply was, “Good, but I’m not quite as pregnant as you.” She didn’t look pregnant at all, so I replied, “Oh, how exciting. I didn’t even know you were pregnant. When are you due?” Her reply, “August 21st.” I really wanted to say, “‘Not quite as pregnant as me?’ Sister, you may never be this pregnant!” I bit my tongue!

■ When my sister, Aimee, was in town last weekend we went and got a pedicure at my favorite little pedicure place. The young man that was doing her pedicure looked at me and said, “That’s the biggest belly I've ever seen.” I told him that there were two babies inside, thinking that maybe I’d get some sympathy…wrong. His reply was, “Well, that’s still the biggest belly I’ve ever seen.” Aimee and I starting laughing so hard and he got embarrassed and apologized. I told him not to apologize and that I appreciated his honesty—it is a big belly, maybe even the biggest belly I’ve ever seen.

■ My feet started to swell. Didn’t I just brag about my lack of swelling a few posts ago? Serves me right! Anyway—if this isn’t the most flattering comment in the world, I don’t know what is. David speaking about my feet said, “Honey, if you had hair all over your feet they would look like Hobbit feet.” That’s my man!

Nice one David. Luckily she loves ya - otherwise you could have got a kick in the pants for that comment. I am so happy to hear that they are measuring so big & healthy. They are so loved!!

I love the "notes from the underbelly" part. Do you watch that show? I think it is soooo dang funny. I can't believe your twins BOTH way more than Sofia did when she was born. She was born almost a month early and she was 5 lbs 14 oz. She lost almost a lb. when we took her home. So, yes, you are so blessed to have big, healthy babies! Let me say that she caught up fast and is so healthy. I'm checking daily for baby updates. Maybe you should do a daily picture and update from here on out as the countdown begins. We would love daily updates!

When I'm pregnant, my husband pushes in on my ankles because he loves to see how the print just sits there for a few moments before it squishes out. And he calls my feet "troll feet".

I'm happy you're still so cheerful! At this stage of pregnancy, I'm a nightmare. Seriously!

Any day now... right? I love your updates because I'm two weeks behind you, and I like to think our next one might weigh that much in two weeks... I'm counting down and I am DONE! being pregnant. If my kids and dogs don't put me labor early it'll be a miracle. I'm excited for you- you seem prepared for these babies. (I'm not ready yet- mentally, yes- but home wise, no way.)

Heehee. After I had Chunk, my oldest sister came to the hospital and looked at me for a minute then said, "I've never seen you look this puffy". Thanks.

It must be fun having everyone talk to you about how uber preggers you are, but I'm curious about how you're sleeping. I could never get comfy in bed when I was expecting. I hope you have a really awesome bed.
